Just a month after Cloud Strife was announced for Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS and WiiU, another surprising and exciting news comes from Masahiro Sakurai himself: Bayonetta is also joining Smash! Sakurai recalled the result of the Super Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot, revealing that the angel-hunting witch Bayonetta is among the top five characters US players want to play as in Smash. She is also Europe's most requested character, and among all the realizable characters, she is the overall number one choice of players worldwide.
A blockbuster announcement from Nintendo just came out: Cloud Strife will join Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and WiiU! Nintendo hosted a character poll where gamers could put in a vote for whichever character they would want to appear as the next DLC character in the game. The poll closed in October 3, and from all the fan nominations, the developers ultimately chose the protagonist of Final Fantasy VII, who will now officially join the roster despite debuting on the Sony PlayStation.
This makes Cloud the sixth guest character to appear in the Smash series, following Solid Snake (in Super Smash Bros. Brawl), Sonic the Hedgehog, Rockman, Pac-Man and Ryu. His addition also makes Square Enix the fifth third-party collaborator to join the series after Konami, Capcom, Sega and Bandai Namco. It was just a rumor at first. But now--again, courtesy of a disrespectful leak--we can now truly say that Fire Emblem's Roy will return in Super Smash Bros. 4 as a DLC character. And along with him comes a new challenger: Street Fighter's Ryu! This makes Roy the fifth Fire Emblem character in the game after Marth, Ike, Robin and Lucina. And still speaking of fifth, Ryu is now officially the fifth overall third-party character to appear in a Smash game following Metal Gear Solid's Snake, Sonic the Hedgehog, Rockman/Megaman and Pac-Man. He is now also the second third-party character from Capcom. Take a look at the two's intro gameplay trailers. While his gameplay will most likely be compared to Marth and Ike, Roy's fighting animations have been highly differentiated, as demonstrated by his icepick grip on his sword in a lot of his attacks. And if you thought Ike was a hard hitter, then Roy could probably be the harder hitter. Meanwhile, Ryu's alternate color palettes are his color palettes from the Street Fighter II games. What makes him different from the rest of the characters is that his special attacks can be done in two ways: first is by using the game's standard command input for special attacks; the second is by doing the Street Fighter-esque controller motion for each respective special move. When done this way, the special attacks will deal greater damage than when they are performed with the basic button presses. That means the ↓ ↘ → + special attack button version of the Hadouken is literally down-right fierce! Another fact that separates Ryu apart from all the rest is that he has two Final Smash attacks: his trademark projectile Shinkuu Hadouken and his hard-hitting Shin Shouryuuken. (I thought his Shinkuu Hadouken Final Smash would be similar to its Marvel vs. Capcom version, though.) Both characters are now available for purchase along with Earthbound's Lucas. Roy is priced at $3.99 for either the Wii or the 3DS, or $4.99 for both systems. Bundled with Ryu is his trademark stage Suzaku Castle, priced at $5.99 for either platform or $6.99 for both. Source: Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and WiiU Official Site Also, Ryu has been confirmed as a returning character in the upcoming tri-brand crossover strategy RPG Project X Zone 2. So yeah, this smashing news so far has been more about Ryu and less about Roy.
The latest update to Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and WiiU opens up the DLC shop, and the first set of DLCs--costumes and accessories for Mii Fighters--are now available for purchase.
Each costume set is worth $0.75 for either the 3DS or the WiiU and $1.15 for both platforms; the whole costume bundle costs $6 if bought for either platform and $9.20 for both. Mewtwo strikes back
In addition to the DLC costumes, Mewtwo, the first confirmed DLC character in SSB4, is now available for download to those who bought both the 3DS and WiiU versions of the game. Nintendo has sent download codes for these players to redeem at the in-game DLC shop. After which, they can then enjoy the game as the Psychic Pokemon.
Those who didn't buy both versions of the game, however, will have to wait until April 28 to be able to play as Mewtwo. The character will be available from the DLC shop for $3.99 for either 3DS or WiiU or $4.99 for both platforms. Nintendo plans to release Lucas form Earthbound next, scheduling him for a June release. Meanwhile, here's Mewtwo in action. Following the unfortunate (and on Nintendo's end, frustrating) leakage of the full roster of Super Smash Bros. 4, a new gameplay trailer surfacces online featuring the new character, Shulk from Xenoblade Chronicles. Shulk is equipped with the legendary blade Monado, and has access to five power-ups in-game: jump, speed, shield, buster and smash. He is accompanied by allies Dunban and Riki in his Final Smash move. Shulk's origin game, Xenoblade Chronicles, was developed by Monolith Soft and was originally entitled Monado: Beginning of the World. It was renamed Xenoblade in honor of its game director and the company's co-founder/president, Tetsuya Takahashi, who also directed all prior Xeno games, namely Xenogears and the Xenosaga trilogy. Monolith Soft is the fourth third-party company that will be represented in SSB4, following Sega (Sonic the Hedgehog), Capcom (Rockman/Megaman) and Bandai Namco Games (Pac-Man), which is also the company behind the development of the game. The 3DS version of the game will be released in Japan on September 13, while America and Australia will get it on October 3 and 4, respectively. The WiiU version will come later on the fourth quarter of 2014. Take a look at Shulk in the trailer below. As previously revealed, Ike and Marth from Fire Emblem will make their return in Super Smash Bros. 4. Now, as revealed in the recent gameplay trailer that went online yesterday, Robin and Lucina will be joining them in the brawl. Chrom also appears in this trailer, where they face the returning Captain Falcon. The final seconds of the trailer reveals that Chrom will be assisting Robin in his Final Smash move, and just like there are opposite-gender variants for the WiiFit Trainer and the Villager, the female Robin can be selected for play. The 3DS version of the game will be released in Japan on September 13, while America and Australia will get it on October 3 and 4, respectively. The WiiU version will come later on the fourth quarter of 2014.
In my personal opinion, the best part of the Electronic Entertainment Expo is when Nintendo announced the newest character additions to Super Smash Bros. 4: It's almost a no-brainer that Pac-Man will get in since it's Namco Bandai that's developing SSB4, but still, it's a great (non)surprise!
It's Greninja! And coming along with this new Pokémon fighter in Super Smash Bros. 4 are returning characters Charizard, Zero Suit Samus, Sheik and Yoshi. Previously, Zero Suit Samus and Sheik are selectable as respective alternate forms of Samus and Zelda, but they will now be treated as separate characters. Meanwhile, Charizard was one of three Pokémon used by the Pokémon Trainer in battle along with Squirtle and Bulbasaur; this game marks his debut as a solo character. SSB4 will be released for the Nintendo 3Ds in the third quarter of this year, while the WiiU players will get to enjoy the game in the fourth quarter.
A new character for Super Smash Bros. 4 has just been revealed today!
Little Mac, the underdog protagonist of Punch-Out!, enters the game as the newest challenger. (Sort of) Accompanying him is his coach Doc Louis, who gives tips from behind the scenes. Read more to check out his knockout reveal trailer. Solid Snake as Mikasa Ackerman.
Zelda/Sheik as Armin Arlert. Pit as Levi's squad. Mewtwo as Titan Eren. WiiFit Trainer as the Female Titan. Everything is spot-on. And most importantly, Rockman as Erwin Smith looks boss! Props to DeviantArt user AmazingArtistYellow for this awesomely done, hand-drawn animated parody/tribute to Super Smash Bros. and Shingeki no Kyojin (aka Attack on Titan). |
